Namaste Day Care
Kathmandu, Nepal

History
Founded in 2013, Namaste Day Care is located in the village of Tokha just 30 minutes north of central Kathmandu, Nepal. Namaste Daycare serves an average of 20 children per day and provides staff volunteers with experience that they can use to attain jobs in childcare and education. The daycare provides an invaluable service which allows mothers of young children to seek employment; thereby having a greater say in the decision-making at home and bringing in additional resources to the family.
Namaste Daycare prepares Nepalese youngsters for success in school, but this childcare center also employs talented young locals who are using their expertise to make this daycare a vehicle for change and development in their village. Thank you to all donors who have made this dream possible. Our initial campaign raised over $3,500 which has been been the seed money that was needed to get the project off the ground. After the devastating earthquake in 2015, a followup fundraiser was done which helped in the expenses in moving to a new facility where families would not have to be afraid of earthquakes.
Founded in November 2013, Namaste Day Care started as an idea hatched by Dipendra Shretsha and Darren McKay. Dipendra, a native Nepali, visited the US on a State Department program to learn about social service non-profits. At Community Chest Inc., a non-profit in Virginia City, Dipendra was inspired by the COW (Classroom on Wheels) early childhood education program. There he met Darren McKay who was already in the process of planning a trip to India and Nepal. Together they decided to embark on the journey of opening a child care center in Nepal.
